Grants
The Maercker School District No. 60 Education Foundation (the 'Foundation') is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization formed to provide an avenue of resources and funding for educational programs and activities that enhance and enrich the existing programs, activities and facilities of District 60. Tax-deductible contributions to the Foundation, both monetary and in-kind, from individuals and businesses enable the Foundation to award grants that directly benefit students' educational experiences. Funds raised by the Foundation are used to award grants for additional, innovative programs and projects proposed by District 60 teachers, administrators and staff. Grant awards in no way supplant state or local funds for school operating expenses or teachers' salaries.

2009-2010 Grant Awards
Maercker School District No 60 Education Foundation has announced fall grant awards for the 2009-10 school years. The following grants have been funded:
- "The Private Eye" was awarded $810.05 for the jeweler loupes, teacher’s guide, activity sheets, mini-world in a box and a world in a box. Private Eye is an instructional strategy that develops higher order thinking skills, creativity, literacy and scientific literacy across subjects. Candy Lee is the Project Leader who will implement this project at Holmes School.
- "Struggling Readers" was awarded $456.00 for books to meet the needs of struggling readers at Maercker School. The purpose of this project is to provide struggling readers with age appropriate books at their reading and interest levels. Karen Murphy is the Project Leader who will implement this project at Maercker School.
- "Memory Books" was awarded $2,280.60 to create personal published portfolios. Students will be able to tell their own story using updated technology and innovative techniques. Amy Siler is the Project Leader who will implement this project at Westview Hills Middle School.
- "Poetry CDs" was awarded $115.73 for the purchase of Edgar Allen Poe’s most famous CDs. This new collection will supplement the “Poetry Cart”, which was previously donated by the Maercker Education Foundation. The goal of this is for students to be able to hear the poetry being read by others, who are experts in the area of oration. Sondra LaPointe is the Project Leader who will implement this project at Westview Hills Middle School School.
- "iMac Computers" was awarded $7,637.85 for the purchase of three iMac Computers to be used in the art room. These computers can perform complicated graphic arts and will be used in teaching photography, graphic design and animation. Josh Vance is the Project Leader who will implement this project at Westview Hills Middle School.
- "MidLevel Institute" was awarded $800.00 to allow a group of students the opportunity to attend the MidLevel Institute in Algonquin. The students will spend the weekend participating in activities that promote leadership skills and alcohol-drug prevention for middle school students. Students will identify strategies they can use when they return to school to promote the positive messages they learned at the MidLevel Institute. Debbie Collins is the Project Leader who will implement this project at Westview Hills Middle School.
- "Challenge Leadership Program" was awarded $2,500.00 for the Challenge Leadership Workshop and Imagination Theater. This grant will support the training of approximately sixty student’s leaders in the Challenge Leadership Program. The Imagination Theater, an improve group that presents behavioral choices, would present to the entire school population to reinforce the Westview Way and the importance of maintaining a safe and supportive school environment. Denise Nero and Debbie Collins are the Project Leaders who will implement this project at Westview Hills Middle School.
